Background
Beanoo, that name has so far seen it's 12th year in use at the time of writing. People always ask, "What does it mean? How'd you get the nickname?". To which I always reply, remember the comic "Beano", well I was an avid IRCer on the famous #mamak channel at the time and needed a name so I tried Beano as I often had fond memories of reading Beano comics. Beano became Beanoo with a double 'o' when I discovered the nickname Beano was already taken by another individual. And to cut a long story short, it stuck and to this day, I have people coming up to me saying "Hi, Beanoo! Remember me?" It's an awkward moment, especially if you have somehow forgotten the person's name. Trivia: "Beano" is also the name of a anti-gas pill in North America. Beanoo as a website has undergone various changes, this being the 5th incarnation since I started having a web site way back when Geocities, was giving out free web space. Things have changed a lot on the internet since that time. Nowadays, people use the internet as a tool to communicate, to produce work, to do banking, to create, to play and even to court the opposite sex in romantic relationships although that has always been the unspoken number one factor. Back then, I started using the internet with a dial up Jaring account and a 2.4kbps built in modem. If you think the internet is slow today? Try waiting for 15 minutes just to view a 70kbyte image. You basically click on a link in a web page (Netscape Version 1.0) and then you walk away and do something else. It wasn't long before I upgraded to a US Robotics 28.8kbps modem shortly after, but the network at the time only supported 14.4kbps. It was heady to be doing interesting things online that most other people had difficulty grasping the concept of. I was working in a different industry at the time but it only seemed natural that a hobby that I enjoyed become an occupation that has seen exponential growth from year to year.
